Safe environment is a comprehensive program designed to promote the safe environment for all children, youth and vulnerable adults, and prevent child sexual abuse. The program was initiated in all dioceses in the United States at the direction of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). "Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People".

All adults employed by the Catholic Church, or adults who volunteer on a consistent basis and have unsupervised contact with minors, must go through the Safe Environment Training, and a background check, prior to working in a ministry with minors.
